April showers bring May flowers, but not in Riga. Its mid July and things are blooming. August is the rainy season and the snow comes after that.

The towers where I live are only a few years old. It is a very nice place.

There are many places to eat at he square in old town Riga.

There are plenty of pointy round buildings in old town Ring. Even a cat on a hot tin roof

Old town Riga has some very cool old buildings

You can tour old town from the waterways in your rented canoe or take a guided ferry
tour.

Riga has many water sprees that run all over downtown old Riga, with many parks right in the middle old town.

The tall thin tower is a memorial for those who have fallen during the Latvian war. If you look closely you can see the solders still guarding the memorial.

Riga still have some of their old electric rail cars running through the streets. Some of the streets are very narrow and most of the roads are still paved with the old cobblestone. The uneven cobblestone makes it hard to walk or ride your bike on.

Went down town old Riga today. I saw some cool and very old buildings.

Here is the gulf of Riga, it connects to the Baltic sea. Even though it is in the middle of July, the water can't be very warm and the air is cool. It sure doesn't keep lots of people from enjoying the white sandy beaches. The forest tree line comes right down to the beach.

Here is the river Daugava. This river divides east and west Latvia. There is a water park a little ways down the shore. I would think it would be very cold there.

The beach where the strawberry festival was is about 12 miles from downtown, So we road the train from old town Riga to the end of the line near the beach. They have electric trains. Not as smooth riding as the ones in Germany. But very cool. You get to see lots of towns along the way,

The weekend I got there it was the strawberry festival near the beach. There were lots of vendors in the parks and along the sidewalks. And lots of people and fresh strawberries.

I finally reached Riga on Saturday. Lots of trees and old ocean style buildings. It reminded me of Portland. Not many mountains though. It rains a lot here just like Portland. Very green. It is the summer season here, but there is usually a cool breeze.

After walking over an hour I finally reached a small town. Its just like I remembered Germany. Notice the old style phone booth at the end of the block. Before I went on my walk I had dinner in the courtyard of this German restaurant.(which was the reason for my walk) There was live German music being played by the buffet. What a great place

On my way to Riga I had to spend the night in Frankfurt Germany, So I went for a walk. I crossed over the auto-bon (can't go to fast with All that traffic) and then I walked by a couple picking vegetables from their garden plot. The basket on the bike makes it easier to transport their groceries home. I was reminded how much I loved the every day, simple life of Germany.
